On February 5, the MotorsportCAT project was presented to enhance the activity and improve the competitiveness of the motor sport industry in Catalonia.

The Secretary General of Sports and Physical Activity, Gerard Figueras, presided yesterday the presentation of the MotorsportCAT project, an initiative that aims to group all entities and people related to this sector, looking for new ideas and opportunities to improve Catalan motor sport and achieve sustained growth of its economic activity.

The project is promoted by CIAC, Clustermoto and RACC, with the support of the General Secretariat of Sports and Physical Activity, the Barcelona-Catalonia Circuit of the FCM and FCA federations.

The strategic plan of the project is focused on achieving a sustained growth of the economic activity of the motor world in Catalonia, a country that has the passion, tradition and great champions in this sector. The initiative revolves around four basic axes: industry, sports teams, events and the public.

In addition to the main partners, the project has more than 50 members, more than 30 volunteers and 7 sponsors, among which there are sports entities, companies and manufacturers in the motor industry, promoters and competition teams, and pilots and former pilots like Marc Márquez, Marc Coma, Ivan Cervantes, Pedro de la Rosa, Laia Sanz, Marc Gené and Toni Bou.

Of the 19 projects initially proposed, efforts have focused on the creation of a website, brand, communication portal and coordination and leadership structure for motorsport in Catalonia; bring international teams close to the circuits; promote the Student Formula together with engineering universities; promote the Kart Academy, together with automotive training institutes and schools; enhance the master-course in motorsport; the creation and promotion of the International Motor Show "Barcelona Motorsport Show"; as well as the promotion of an International Karting Circuit. It has also collaborated with the adaptation of the Calafat Circuit by Formula E.
